Author: Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge M.D.
My father gave me this book when I was approaching the half-century mark of age of 50, and it had an enormous influence on me. I credit this book for launching me into the habit of setting annual workout goals and tracking my progress towards them on a daily basis.
Co-written by a prominent internist presenting the medical side of how to turn back (or at least slow) our biological clock, and one of his patients presenting the life-style implications, this is an enlightening and motivating book for achieving a better, healthier you. The combination of the two authors writing approach makes this a very informative and readable book, with one providing the latest on physiology and science related to our aging, and the other with practical, everyday implications. There are also a lot of stories and anecdotes that spice things up.
Most of the book is dedicated to various types of exercise like aerobic vs. anaerobic, and weight training, with the related physiology and the how’s and why’s. Nutrition and emotional health are also covered. Content is nicely organized, and broken down into small chunks that make for easy reading.
There are lots of books out there covering similar ground, but this one really struck a chord with me. It was much more entertaining and convincing than my review is probably making it out to be. This one really made me take the advice to heart. Plus, the book title is pretty catchy for those of us in our 2nd half-century. But for you young ones reading this, don’t be fooled that this is only a book for old folks. On the contrary, it carries good, sound advice for all of us.
